The State of Maine and CLIC will present a Safe Boating Course (the first of two) in the Orient area, 9:30 til 3:30 (...the specific location will be disclosed to those who register). New Maine boating regulations require that youngsters (under age 18) must take a Safe Boating Course in order to operate any personal watercraft...a good course for youngsters to take whether or not they will be driving a personal watercraft. There is NO COST.

CLIC Annual Halfmoon Island Picnic

11:00 to 1:00 - Free to all - both Members and Non-members
All CLICers, their families and guests and all potential CLIC members are invited to gather on Halfmoon Island in northern East Grand Lake (sometimes known as Old Man's Island) for another great Island Picnic of Hot Dogs and Soda and Bones' French Fries and watch the other events of the day. Come early for the boat parade and stay late for the end of the sailing regatta. There's a nice wide sand beach on the south side of the island...plenty of room to beach your boat. The swimmin's great too. Jerry & Bones and company make great wieners. You might want to bring your lawn chairs.

The St. Croix International Waterway Commission will present and discuss ...at two locations and times TODAY... its Management Plan that is being revised this summer. If you have something to offer about resource management, the environment, heritage economy or general services, please attend and participate. St. Croix Waterway landowners will receive a review package in the mail shortly but these presentations are open to the public. The FIRST presentation will be at 4:00 PM ADT (3:00 EDT) at the North Lake Community Center, 4426 Route 122, Fosterville, NB and the SECOND presentation will be made at the Weston Grange Hall on US Route 1 in Weston, ME at 7:00 PM. The review information is also available at
www.stcroix.com About ten people showed up in Fosterville and only one person showed up in Weston.

Breakfast at the North Lake Community Center, Fosterville 8:00 - 10:00 Atlantic Time, that's 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM Eastern Time. Donations will benefit the local high school

Until Memorial Day, the Orient Border Gates are open ONLY between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM EDT westbound and travellers are allow to exit the USA until the Canadian Customs office closes daily.
Starting Sunday, May 27th, the Orient port will be open between 7:00 AM and 11:00 PM - Fosterville hours are (usually) concurrent.
Forest City, ME hours remain at 8:00 AM thru 7:00 PM but they will be open Sundays and Holidays during the summer. Forest City, NB opens at the same time but closes at 4:00 PM EDT (5:00 PM AT) and is closed on Sundays and Canadian Holidays...CanPASS credentials are needed to enter Canada after Canada Customs closes and before the US Border is gated and and the port is abandoned.

Annual Perseid Meteor Shower
Best viewing - highest frequency on 8/12 in the dark of the night...the The frequency of the meteors is estimated at "hundreds per hour." The meteors appear to be eminating from the area of the steller constellation Perseus (whereever that is).
The event will go on "rain or shine!" :-D Hope we don't miss it again this year.

The Sixteenth Annual "County Open Weekend" & Dinner Raffle will be held to benefit the Houlton Hospital Foundation.

The Annual Golf Tournament will be a two-day event with one day of play at the Houlton Community Golf Course and one day at the VA-JO-WA Course in Island falls. On Saturday night a Gala Dinner- Raffle will be held

Best viewing - highest frequency on 8/12 in the dark of the night...the The frequency of the meteors is estimated at "hundreds per hour."

The Sixteenth Annual "County Open Weekend" & Dinner Raffle will be held to benefit the Houlton Hospital Foundation.

The Annual Golf Tournament will be a two-day event with one day of play at the Houlton Community Golf Course and one day at the VA-JO-WA Course in Island falls. On Saturday night a Gala Dinner- Raffle will be held a t the Millar Arena in Houlton. Over $9,000 of cash prizes will be awarded to the lucky ticket holders with the top prize being $5,000.

In addition, on Saturday, August 13th at 8:00AM, the 5th Annual County Open Half Marathon and Half Marathon Relay race will be started and at 2:00PM the 5th Annual County Open Classic Bike Race will be hosted by the County Open Committee.

Come early and stay late for the end of the sailing regatta. There's a nice wide sand beach on the south side of the island...plenty of room to beach your boat. The swimmin's great too. FIRST, from 3:00 to 4:30 PM EDT (4:00 to 5:30 Atlantic Time) Workshop on INVASIVE PLANTS on the Canadian side of the bridge between Orient and Fosterville at the new Fosterville Boat Landing (across from Canadian Customs). Presented by Maggie Shannon, Executive Director of MaineCOLA (Congress of Lakes Association), the workshop will be held outdoors...if it's raining, we will move into the new Fosterville Community Center about a half mile east of the bridge on Route 122 on the left at the top of the hill. The workshop is free to anyone who would like to attend to learn more about milfoil and other invasive plants. Arrive early enough to check in with Customs and find a parking place.

All are welcome...there is no cost to attend. If you have a problem with the way the St. Croix Waterway is being operated, this is one of the regulating agencies.

CLIC Annual Halfmoon Island Picnic

Noon - Free to all - Members and Non-members
All CLICers, their families and guests and all potential CLIC members are invited to gather on Halfmoon Island (sometimes known as Old Man's Island) for another great Island Picnic of Hot Dogs and Soda and watch the other events of the day. Come early and stay late for the end of the sailing regatta. There's a nice wide sand beach on the south side of the island...plenty of room to beach your boat. The swimmin's great too. Last year, some kids got a free float-plane ride. Jerry & Bones and company make great wieners. Rain Date tomorrow
